Gravity Wells

This doesn't take into account the energy imparted by orbital motion (or gravity assists or the Oberth effect), all of which can make it easier to reach outer planets.

So, Christmas has been and gone. I have been online a fair amount but not talky. Stuff. Sleep patterns non-existent, being around people, etc.

Day was nice; am at sister's house, were five of us (two sisters plus husbands) now other sister and hubby have returned to Aberdeen; I am going home tomorrow. Dad visited unexpectedly on Christmas day, which was good because I sent most of my presents home with him, including the ironing board.

Have taught both sisters basic crochet, and cramped up my hand doing crochet all day, because I'm not that used to it, but I do seem to have developed a smooth motion, and now I have made a hat.

I just started looking at job stuff again ten minutes ago and already I feel like shit. "But what do you really want to do?" asked the woman at the job centre, and I looked at her blankly. What do you mean, 'want'? What do you mean, 'enjoy'?

I would talk to my psychiatrist about it but I now haven't seen him in five weeks, only two of which were my fault. I don't know if I'm supposed to go this week but I'm going to assume not. And he'd just ask how it made me feel, anyway.

:(

Press release copy-pasted from FaceBook message

Paata was released today but here is more information about the raid itself posted by RFSL Sweden:

December 15 attack on the Georgian LGBT organization Inclusive Foundation's office in Tbilisi by Georgian police. Women who were there were humiliated and the organization's chairman has been arrested and are still imprisoned.

The police were not uniformed and did not show up any official papers last Tuesday when they came into the Inclusive Foundation premises. The local women's group was there and had a meeting when the police arrived. All their private cell phones were confiscated and the women were not allowed to contact their families. The police called them perverted, sick and satanists and threatened to distribute photographs of them and reveal their sexual orientation publicly, and one of the leaders threatened murder.

After the attack on the premises was arrested on the organization's chairman Paata Sabelashvili who also sits on the board of ILGA Europe *. He has not yet been granted bail and if nothing is likely he will be imprisoned until he is tried, which may take several months.

- When human rights are violated have Sweden as President of the EU clearly protest against what happened and demand that Paat Sabelashvili released on bail, "said Soren Juvas, president of RFSL and European representative of ILGA World Board.

- In many countries in Eastern Europe you can see up to Sweden. That is why Swedish politicians' behavior is particularly important, "said Linda Freimane ** which is one of ILGA Europe chairman.

Organization's employees are persecuted since the attack of cars with uniformed men.

In Georgia, homophobia and the pressure against LGBT people very strongly. Few dare to be open, and hate crimes in the form of threats and violence commonplace.

** Linda Freimane is also chairman of Mosaic, the largest LGBT organization in Latvia. She is in Stockholm at the moment and is fluent in Swedish.

* ILGA Europe is an umbrella organization for the European LGBT organizations.

Best conversation of the day

Among the many people who came round to my parents' house today were my cousin and her kids. In an attempt to make the kids go to bed on time, she has adapted the traditional Scottish nursery rhyme "Wee Willie Winky"*, because the kids had noticed that there are no consequences for children who aren't asleep when he checks up on them. So Big Willy Winky, the older brother of Wee Willy, was invented as a bogeyman who punishes anyone who tries to stay up past their bedtime. To my cousin's great embarrassment, her daughters have shortened the name to just "Big Willy", and have been known to talk about him in public. Anyway, the fantastic conversation went like this:

Five-year-old child on being warned about bedtime: *sulks* I don't like Big Willy
Her tipsy mother: Just wait until you're older...

It has been a bearable day overall, even though I have had to record Doctor Who and haven't seen it yet. No major arguments, although there were plenty of smaller ones. [info]silvertarna and [info]stubbleupdate win the braces-spotting pool by default, because no one has noticed, and since they guessed the latest point in the day, their guesses will be closest to whenever my mother finds out about the disapproved-of metalwork.

Wee Willy Winky is a vaguely suspicious character who goes out at 8 o'clock, wearing pyjamas, and looks through windows and keyholes to make sure that all the children are in bed, like some kind of creepy bedtime monitor. Foreign readers should note that "Willy" is probably the most common non-offensive term that children use to refer to a penis in this part of the world.
